A Plea To Matthew Costello
Dear Matthew Costello, COO of Beats Electronics,
I come to you not as a customer, not even as a loyalist, but as a desperate man with giant ears, glasses, and a dream.
You see, I’ve tried everything in the Apple/Beats headphone ecosystem. I’ve danced with AirPods Pro, thinking their magical Find My integration and sleek wireless charging case would finally make me whole. And yet, every time I wear them, they slip out of my ears as if my ear canals had signed a non-compete agreement with gravity. They do not want to stay. They cannot be persuaded. They fall out like a kid at summer camp running away from responsibility.
Then came the PowerBeats Pro 2, with all the features of the AirPods Pro I was desperate for. “Ah,” I thought, “this will be the one.” But alas, as a glasses-wearer, the ear hooks are a nightmare. They press, they pinch, they make me wonder if this is some sort of cruel evolutionary tax on the visually impaired. PowerBeats Pro might work if I ditched glasses for contacts, but until Apple Vision Pro can shrink to the size of a contact lens, this isn’t an option.
But there is one that works perfectly...my beloved Beats Fit Pro. Back in 2021, when I first bought the Beats Fit Pro, it was love at first sound. I had been struggling with AirPods Pro that slipped out of my ears whenever I so much as walked briskly or dared to enter a gym. But the Fit Pros? They locked in like a miracle. Finally, I could run, lift, or even nod along dramatically to a podcast without one earbud making a break for freedom.
Matthew, they are perfect. They fit snug, like they were designed by some divine audiologist just for me. They don’t fall out on a run. They don’t tangle with my glasses. They have ANC that silences both planes and people equally well. They are, without exaggeration, the single best thing I’ve put into my ears.
But here’s the problem: they haven’t been updated in years. The Beats Fit Pro have been identical since their 2021 release, and we are now looking at the end of 2025.
Meanwhile, AirPods Pro got refreshed. New features, better battery, all the shiny Apple ecosystem perks. Wireless charging, the ability to locate them when the case inevitably disappears, better sound quality. But I stay faithful, because only the Beats Fit Pro fit.
Matthew, I'm not asking for the moon. I'm asking for my beloved Fit Pros with the features that AirPods Pro users take for granted. Give me Find My, so I don't have to tear apart my apartment like a raccoon every time they disappear. Give me wireless charging, so I can feel like I live in 2025, not 2021. Keep everything else exactly the same: the fit, the comfort, the magical ability to stay inside my ridiculous ears.
So here’s my plea, Matthew:
In 2025, update the Beats Fit Pro. You’ll make the world a better place. Or at least my ears a happier place.
